Adopt a Dog

FARR rescues large and giant breed dogs — 50 lbs and up — from shelters across Florida and places them in loving forever homes. Could yours be next?

About Our Dogs

We primarily rescue Labrador Retrievers and Lab mixes, but our dogs also include Shepherds, Huskies, Border Collies, Aussies, Hounds, Great Pyrenees, Great Danes, and more. If it's a large or giant breed — generally 50 lbs and up — there's a good chance we've rescued one.

Every dog in our program is fostered in a home environment, so we get to know their personality, energy level, and needs before they're adopted. That means better matches and happier families.

How Adoption Works

  1. 1

    Submit an Application

Fill out our adoption application so we can learn about your home, lifestyle, and what you're looking for in a dog.

  2. 2

    Application Review

Our team reviews your application and reaches out to discuss your family, living situation, and any dogs you're interested in. If you currently have a dog, we will contact your vet as a reference to confirm your dog is up to date on shots and heartworm preventative, and is spayed or neutered.

  3. 3

    Meet Your Match

You must be willing to come to the foster home to meet the dog and any other pets in your household. We do not ship dogs or allow adoptions without an in-person meeting.

  4. 4

    Welcome Home

Your dog comes home with you! We're here to support you through the transition and answer any questions along the way.

What We Look For

We want every adoption to be a lifelong success. Here's what we consider when reviewing applications:

  • A safe, stable home environment where the dog lives indoors as a family member
  • All family members on board with adopting
  • Landlord approval if renting
  • A plan for safe exercise — a fenced yard is not required, but outside dogs or dogs allowed to roam without a fence are not permitted
  • Commitment to training, exercise, and veterinary care
  • If applying for a puppy under 6 months: someone must be home during the day — puppies cannot hold their bladder for more than a few hours
  • If the dog is not yet spayed/neutered or is undergoing heartworm treatment: adopter must live within one hour of our vets (Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, Pasco, or Hernando Counties)
